The following helps outline specific details regarding the work we are being hired to do. Some items may not apply to the work we are doing together in this project, others will. If you have any questions, please ask and we’ll be glad to clarify.
Design
We create look-and-feel designs, and flexible layouts that adapt to the capabilities of many devices and screen sizes. We create designs iteratively and use predominantly HTML and CSS. As such, we don’t waste time (or your money) mocking up every single template as a static visual. We use visuals to indicate a creative direction (color, texture, and typography) and will layout key screens, as needed, as part of the design phase. We assume we’ll work through 1-2 rounds of design tweaks and revisions with you during this phase.
You’ll have plenty of opportunities to review our work and provide feedback. We’ll share PDFs, a Dropbox folder, or a Github repository with you and we’ll stay in regular contact. If, at any stage, you’re not happy with the direction our work is taking, you’ll pay us in full for everything we’ve produced up to that point and cancel the contract.
Text content
Unless noted in our agreement, we’re not responsible for inputting text or images into your content management system, or creating every page on your website. We provide professional copywriting and editing services, so if you’d like us to create new content or input for you, we can provide a separate estimate for that. We will insert basic placeholders for the site content, or use the content that you have provided, as outlined within our agreement.
Graphics, photographs, and video content
You should supply graphic files in an editable, vector digital format. You should supply photographs in a high resolution digital format. If you choose to buy stock photographs, we can suggest stock libraries. If you’d like us to search for photographs for you, we can provide a separate estimate for that. You should supply video content in Full HD (1920×1080) format. It is assumed that video will be hosted using a free service, such as YouTube, or that you have a paid hosting service, such as Vimeo, or Amazon S3. If you’d like us to host video(s) for you, we can provide a separate estimate for that.
HTML, CSS and JavaScript
We deliver web page types developed from HTML markup, CSS stylesheets for styling and unobtrusive JavaScript for feature detection, poly-fills and behaviors.
Search engine optimization (SEO)
As you can imagine, we can’t guarantee improvements to your website’s search engine ranking, but the web pages that we develop are fully accessible to search engines and we use current best-practice standards.
Social Media
We build all our websites with social media marketing in mind. We include easy to see icons on where appropriate with links to your social media platforms. We also include like / share buttons on all consumable content.
Changes and revisions
The price at the beginning of this contract is based on the amount of time that we estimate we’ll need to accomplish everything you’ve told us you want to achieve, but we’re happy to be flexible. If you want to change your mind, or add anything new, that won’t be a problem as we’ll provide a separate estimate for any additional time / functionality requests.
Browser testing
Browser testing no longer means attempting to make a website look the same in browsers of different capabilities, or on devices with different size screens. It does mean ensuring that a person’s experience of a design should be appropriate to the capabilities of a browser or device.
Desktop browser testing
We develop and test to ensure cross-browser compatibility and responsive design. We test our work in current versions of major desktop browsers including those made by Apple (Safari), Google (Chrome), Microsoft (Edge), and Mozilla Firefox. We won’t test in other older, outdated browsers unless we agree separately. If you need an enhanced design for an older browser, we can provide a separate estimate for that.
We make every effort to ensure that older browser versions, still commonly in use, will also be compatible with your new site, however there can be minor rendering issues that are may be unseen on testing servers. We will address any of these rare issues with you on a case-by-case basis and do our best to provide you the best support possible. There are however some issues that can not be easily resolved when it comes to older technology.
Mobile / tablet browser testing
Testing using popular smaller screen devices is essential in ensuring that a person’s experience of a design is appropriate to the capabilities of the device they’re using. We test our designs in: iOS (latest release): Safari, Google Chrome Android: Google Chrome on Android Emulator. We won’t test in Blackberry, Opera Mini/Mobile, specific Android devices, Windows, or other mobile browsers unless we agreed separately. If you need us to test using these, we can provide a separate estimate for that.
Training procedures
We will provide one (1) training session to your administrative user(s) on the test site prior to launch. Up to ten (10) administrative users may participate in this training. It is the responsibility of the attendees to take good notes during training sessions. We are happy to provide you with a recording of the session for future reference, just ask prior to the start of the session. If you need an additional training session(s), we can provide a separate estimate for that.
Administrative access
Upon launch, you are granted FULL ADMINISTRATIVE ACCESS to the WordPress Administrative Console and the published website. BY REQUESTING AND ACCEPTING ADMINISTRATIVE ACCESS, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU AND YOUR ADMINISTRATIVE USERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY CHANGES OR ALTERATIONS MADE TO THE WEBSITE. Restoration or maintenance work that is required due to an alteration of the finished deliverable is your responsibility. We can provide a separate estimate for those services.
Website hosting
It is assumed that the website, and all code will be hosted by us, or one of our recommended alternate providers, unless otherwise outlined in our agreement. We can’t be held responsible for performance or reliability of any other service provider. Should you choose an alternative provider, please ensure that the chosen provider’s configuration meets WordPress’ minimum server requirements. Additional testing or configuration of your website or hosting platform may be required as a result. We can provide a separate estimate for those services.
File storage
We will store digital files and media used to complete the project for a period of three (3) months beyond the project completion. At that point, we reserve the right to discard them. If we are hosting your website, we maintain backup copies of all source files and media in conjunction with your hosting agreement. If requested by the Client, digital files and media will be stored for an additional period for additional charge. We are not liable for any loss or damage to stored files or material beyond what is recoverable by the our fire and extended insurance coverage.
Development platform & final deliverables
We will deliver a self-hosted WordPress website built on the Genesis Framework, featuring a WordPress Administrative Console, unless otherwise noted in our agreement. Digital files will be uploaded to our hosting servers via secure FTP transfer, or as outlined in this agreement.
Development warranty
If any development errors are discovered within (90) ninety days following the launch of the site, we will correct them at no charge to you. This does not apply to feature enhancements, adjustments, upgrades, or future alterations to your site.
